Adjacent A Building 402 Novella Volume 1 Alexandra Warren Books Reviews

  • I am an absolute sucker for Black love stories that feature male protagonists who are intentional and steadfast in their commitment to Black women. Across time and space, cultural and political narratives consistently suggest that Black women aren't worthy of unconditional love and unwavering commitment. To be sure, Black romance--as a very genre--contradicts this narrative, but there is something about an intentional male protagonist, one that is so incredibly certain of his desire for and devotion to a Black woman, that just does something to my heart. And that is precisely the type of story Alexandra Warren has written.

Eve and A.J. are neighbors, but they are far from friends. A.J. is a giant flirt who's more interested in frequent, casual sex than serious dating. Eve is attracted to A.J., but she wants something deeper than the free, easygoing attachments that A.J. is used to building. But, when it comes to Eve, A.J. realizes that free and easygoing is the very last thing he wants. He was something rooted, something grounded, something that will last.

A.J. was SWOON WORTHY not only because he was oh so fine (!), but also because he was all about showing Eve, through deed and word, that he wanted to earn her trust. And Eve!!! Eve was my girl because she knew her worth; she knew what she wanted--and what she DIDN'T want--out of a relationship, and she wasn't willing to settle. It was such a joy to watch their relationship evolve.

If I have any critique of 'Adjacent,' it would simply be that it was too short; I knew going in that the story was a novella (and it is indeed a full novella replete with well-developed characters and a fulfilling plot), but Eve and A.J. had such great chemistry, that I wanted a NOVEL! This was a great read in between the dense academic texts that I've been consuming as of late. Definitely a recommendation for those who are fans of Warren's past work as well as those who are fans of Sabrina ELB Scales's 'Bricks' novellas.
  • This was cute! I loved the vibe between Aj and Eve. They were very entertaining as well grandma lol. I caught myself smiling a few times throughout the book. I even had “oh hell nah” moments too! Hopefully, we can find out a little more about Eve and Aj through the other tenants stories.
As always Ms. Warren you did your thang girl!

Check this out novella, you will not be disappointed. Well maybe just a little because it leave you for wanting more but as it’s says it’s a novella.
  • This was such an enjoyable book to read. A.J. and Eve were neighbors in adjacent apartments. Eve noticed and heard the different women coming and going from his apartment and she didn't want to become involved with him. A.J. was determined to change her mind and did. I really enjoyed this couple's vibe and their interactions with each other. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.
  • I truly enjoyed Art and Eve union! Art is a man of action, in more than one area! Come on thru Art with the ‘D’ lol 😂! Eve wasn’t ready baby! On another note there journey brought them together on a positive note! Grandma Eve ain’t no joke! Can’t wait until the next installment!
  • Loved this book! Great couple and story to kick off this series. So cute (and hysterical!) that they both had ‘old’ names. This was a novella, but it truly didn’t feel like one. Great storyline with interesting characters.

Looking forward to the next installment!
  • Loved this one! I thoroughly enjoyed AJ's pursuit of Eve AND that she didn't deny her attraction to.him, but was adamant that she would not be one in a line up of many! A very well-written, cute story that was fun to read!
  • Great read
  • After Wins & Losses, I’ve been anxiously awaiting another book. I was so happy when I stumbled upon Alexandra’s IG and saw this book was coming. Now at first, I was a little nervous with it being a novella. I’ve read a few good novellas, but most of the time I’m left unsatisfied. But what can I say, Alexandra delivered an entertaining/satisfying novella…. but I’m not surprised as she always delivers.

If I could describe Adjacent in one word, I’d say sexy. Almost too sexy. I found myself peeking outside of my apartment building in search of a fine a** neighbor to help me get through these classes I’m starting in a few weeks….

& What I liked the most is that A.J wasn’t a perfect character. We have these romances where you have the perfect man. You know they type. The type that shows up and boom he’s what you been waiting for your whole life. But instead we have A.J, who had women slipping in between his sheets faster than he could change. I loved seeing his growth from being a player to a hopeless romantic!

Now I can’t wait until to hear from Lawson, especially since that man was described to look like Trevante Rhodes!
