But appearances aren't always what they seem, and dreams often become disappointments.

Just months into her marriage with a proclaimed darling of the ton, Abby finds herself widowed, penniless, and increasing. Even more precarious are the feelings she's developing for a man she shouldn't love, a man the law prohibits her from marrying--her late husband's brother, the Marquess of Brigston.

"I absolutely love and adore Rachael Anderson's books. She's an author that is an "instant buy" author for me. I get so excited every time I see that she has a new book coming out. This Serendipity series is quickly becoming a favorite for me. I love the Regency time period. The manners, the dresses, the parties, the country estates, the carriage rides, the gentlemen, the courting. I love it! Now, I will clarify, that as much as I love reading about it, I probably (scratch that-no probably at all) wouldn't want to live during that time. But I can most definitely loving adore it all from afar and through research and reading about it in fiction novels and watch period dramas.

Abby was a character whom I adored from the beginning. The bright personality combined with the quiet sorrow in her eyes drew me right in from the first introduction of her character. There was so much happening in this book, but as the reader it takes time to read have the truth be revealed. But please trust me when I say that it is all worth it!

Morgan (or Brigston) is the beginning narrator for the book and I loved watching so much of the story unfold through his eyes. He's had a lot put on his shoulders through life and sorrows. When he meets his brother's new bride, the one he eloped with, Morgan knows that his life will never be the same. What was their reasoning behind eloping? Is she a schemer and using this marriage to get what she wants? What can he do to protect his brother?

When everything he thoughts, changes and sorrow hits his family again, Morgan must learn what matters most. When Abby continues to bring joy, light and hope back into his life can he find a way to show her how much he cares for her? Or will all the laws of the land hold him back from what his heart truly desires?

I don't want to spoil anything for this book, but there are so many things that I want to tell you about these two characters. I loved their relationship. Their friendship was so great! There are several other characters in this book that are essential in helping Morgan and Abby's relationship develop. Morgan was a perfect gentleman. I loved his quiet and gentle ways of doing great acts for Abby and for the other people in his life.

From the first page to the final page, I loved every minute of my time reading this book. I had several moments of laughing with the characters, at the characters and aching and sorrowing with them as well. This book is not just about friendship, love and the characters' lives. There is depth, sorrow, pain, hope, healing and peace woven into the story as well. If you're a clean romance lover, this one is sure to bring many moments of happy reading enjoyment into your life. If you haven't read the first book, that's ok. The main character and sisters from the first book make several appearances but the author does a great job of introducing them during their first appearance in a way that you know the basic information and allows this book to be a stand alone. But, with as much as I loved this book, book one, My Sister's Intended is my favorite of the two!

Content: Clean.

A character was attacked by a man, raped and becomes pregnant. The attack is not described in detail, except to explain the circumstances and done as a memory and not when it happened. Mention of a couple other females being attacked and raped. The author did a great job addressing rape in the book. She doesn't get graphic but does very well in showing support for women and encouraging them to use their voice to help themselves and others in this type of situation.

    Happy Reading!!!
  • I loved the first book in the series and was so excited to read the second one. However, it was dark and depressing. I started skimming the book towards the middle; there was nothing in it to hold my attention. I agree with some of the other reviewers that they way this author handled the "secret" was inappropriate and short-sighted. The only positive is that the authors books can only get better than this one.
  • The Marquess of Brigston, Morgan, is concerned when his younger brother elopes with Miss Abigail Nash. Abby, months into her marriage, finds herself a penniless widow. As these two share their grief, their feelings develop into something the law prohibits them from acting on.

Abby is a definite sweetheart in this book. It is easy to see her reservations from the moment we are introduced to her. The reasons for her choices are not told at first, and when they come to light make her all the more endearing.

We start the book with Morgan. He has reservations, and rightfully so, about what his brother has done. His grief over Jasper's death was brilliantly shown, and through it all, he is the perfect gentleman.

There is an air of desperation to their story. The law prohibits them from marrying. how will they overcome what appears to be impossible to surpass? I won't spoil it, but it is clever!

I would recommend this to readers who love clean Regency Romance.
  • This book appears to illustrate the difficulty of maintaining a writing standard. The first book in this series was charming, but the Book 2 failed to be likely or to read smoothly. A rape in daylight in Hyde Park with friends nearby is an unlikely start, the resulting pregnancy appears to have odd timing, with the child quickening at unusual times, the mother never feeling any aversion to her situation and the once befriended rapist finally being depicted as a person with whom one would never associate, together with the poor writing make Book 2 to be avoided. Buy Book 1.
  • This novel was a breath of fresh air—the plot was so unique and the characters so authentic. I loved the playful banter between Abby and Brigston, and as a reader you could plainly see how right they were for each other. I loved walking the journey each one traveled to come to “happily ever after.” Ms. Anderson continues to be in my “Top Five Authors” List.—her books are the best!
  • Enjoyed reading this book. The characters, dialogue, and plotline kept me entertained. Highly recommend this book to those who enjoy clean romances.
  • I really enjoyed this novel and would recommend it to anyone who likes clean regency reads. I also recommend her first novel in the series for those who haven’t read it yet, it was just as enjoyable as the second book in the series.
  • I have always loved Rachael Anderson's novels. It took me a while to get into this one until suddenly I just couldn't stop reading. I couldn't see things ending happy but Anderson is a fantastic writer and turned it into a beautiful story about hope and love.
Thank you for another gem Rachael Anderson!
